BMW chief Harald Krüger resigns before crunch meeting - The Times

The head of BMW has quit before the carmaker’s board meeting next week, where his future was due to be up for discussion.

Harald Krüger, the German company’s chief executive since 2015, said yesterday that he had decided not to seek a second five-year term in the position. His successor will be appointed this month, with Oliver Zipse, 55, and Nicolas Peter, 57, tipped as frontrunners. BMW has an upper age limit of 60 for board members.

The Munich-based BMW is a big investor in Britain, with plants making Minis and parts in Oxford and Swindon, an engine plant near Coventry and the Rolls-Royce assembly line in West Sussex. The company was founded in 1916 as Bayerische Motoren Werke.
